National Coal Mining Museum for England, Wakefield

Travel 140 meters underground down one of Britain's oldest working mines, where models and machinery depict methods and conditions of mining from the 1800s to present day. Your guide for the trip will be an ex-local miner.

Above ground visit the shop, cafe, pit ponies, steam winder, Pithead baths, nature trail, and adventure playground or take a train ride. Don't forget you can also visit our exciting interactive Hope Pit site.
