Calling all Nintendo DS gamers... take part in a World Record attempt!

Article published on 20 July 2010

As part of a fantastic summer of fun, we are calling on all potential record breakers to pick up their Nintendo DS on 28 July for a Guinness World Records™ attempt and a free afternoon of family fun.

Families, gamers and friends can bring their hand-held consoles and a game of their choice along to the Museum to help break the world record for the largest number of people playing DS games in the same space.

Free activities kick off at 15.00, including face-painting, a bouncy castle and all the Museum’s interactive displays and galleries. We will be open late until 8pm.

Barbecue food will be available as well as refreshments from the café and there will be a Street Fighter 2 battle in the Museum’s Games Lounge from 19.00, with a Nintendo DS as the grand prize.

Tom Woolley, Curator of New Media at the National Media Museum, said:

“I’m looking forward to seeing so many people come together to play Nintendo DS - I’m sure we can set a new World Record! Videogaming is a growing area for the Museum with our new Games Lounge and events like this reinforce our commitment to viewing games as a culturally valuable, sociable and fun activity.”

To take part in the Nintendo DS World Record attempt, and help beat the current record of 586 people, players can download a registration form and register throughout the afternoon until 18.00 on the day itself, ready for the event which will commence at 18.00.
