You're invited to Eureka! The National Children's Museum for a weekend of fun and festivities as we celebrate our 18th Birthday with our best mates: you, our visitors!

For our big grown-up birthday we're hosting a proper kid's party, with games, dancing, and of course, cake. Come dressed in your best and take part in big dances on the hour with everyone in the museum, play party games and get jumpy in the bouncy castle. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for Eureka! flashbacks to our 1990's childhood.

On and around the weekend of 17th and 18th July, we will be celebrating the Festival of British Archaeology with a number of guided tours of the excavation, a chance to look at and learn about the archaeological finds that are being made and family activities for budding archaeologists!

Be transported back in time to see the Victorians who would have promenaded around Harlow Carr in the 1900's. Why not sample some of the legendary spa water from The Royal Baths in Harrogate.

Eureka! PlayFest

Eureka! The National Children's Museum, Halifax

School's out for the summer and there's no better way to celebrate than with a festival of play, when PlayFest arrives at Eureka! The National Children's Museum.

 

Join us for seven weeks of fun-filled activities including space hopper races, carnival crafts, beach boogieing music and dance performances, fairground rides, inflatables and much more. Be sure to return again and again using the Eureka! Harewood Planetarium Star Show

Come and join us for a journey around your galaxy.  Learn how to find the Plough and the North Star and the splendid constellation of Orion the Hunter. During your journey you will see all the stars that can be seen in the British night sky during the course of the year. Listen and learn about the myths and legends attached to some of those stars.

A Midsummer Nights' Dream (Outdoor theatre)

The entertainment begins as soon as you take your seat. Come rain or shine, the Oddsocks players involve you in the action from the safety of your chair (or blanket). Bettys Teahouse will be open in the garden during the interval for hot drinks. Garden opens at 6.30pm. Performance starts at 7.30pm

Fearsome Florence

Summer holiday activities - 28 July and 4, 11, 18 and 25 August

Florence Nightingale passed away one hundred years ago. Come and find out how this remarkable woman changed the history of medicine and war.

The Fearsome Florence workshops will be running every Wednesday (from 28th July - 25th August) of the school holidays, 10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm.

There will be a different activity to participate in every Wednesday.

Week 1 - Lovely lamps

Decorate your own lamp with glass paints, just like the lamp Florence Nightingale would have had.

 

Week 2 - Make your own catapult

The Crimean war is raging and you need to protect your army. With some material at hand, and a limited supply of shillings to buy more, can you make the best catapult to protect yourself from the enemy?

 

Week 3 - Flapping Owls

 Make yourself a pet owl with flapping wings- just like Florence Nightingale had.

 

Week 4 - Rats and Mice

Rats and mice spread diseases and infections during the Crimean War. Come along and have a go at making fun finger puppet rats and mice.

 

Week 5 - Marvelous Medals

Medals are given out when people fight and help in wars. If you were fighting in the Crimean war, what would your medal look like? Design your own medal to take home with you.

Workshops are free with usual museum admission.

Harlow Carr Warriors, are you ready for a challenge?

Can you take on the great garden adventure? If you are brave enough pack the essentials, bring the family and report to Harlow Carr this August. To kick the month off we are celebrating with a Forest Party on the 1st. Come dressed up and enjoy rainforest crafts and watch as a tree sculptor expertly carves one of Harlow Carr's woodland trees.

 

Everyday after that, why not dare to take part in our Mystery Garden Quest and find the hidden clues by GPS or every weekend you can develop your outdoor skills with den building, bush crafts and a scavenger hunt workshop? If you would like something a little more serene why not try your hand at yoga in the garden with the YogaBugs.

Louisa and her trusty companion Milky-White the cow are back to perform 'Beauty and the Beast' especially for you this summer!  Laura Turner's interpretation of this classic fairytale is sure to delight children of all ages as Louisa and her friends transform their ordinary 1940's garden into a magical setting for this endlessly exciting fairytale.  As they act out the story, be prepared for the fearsome beast and his terrifying castle, but never fear, as Beauty quickly finds some rather surprising friends whilst the beast's heart finally begins to melt.  Come along and watch this heart-warming story of fun and friendship in fancy dress and join Louisa and her friends in a fairytale parade during the interval - a true Chapterhouse tradition.

Wild West Weekend

Castle Howard, York

Bring the children in their cowboy hats or feathered headdresses and enjoy a variety of activities with a wild west flavour! In our 'OK Corale' try your hand at Hoop La, Tin Can Alley or the Shoot Out. If you have brave little ones they can take their place on our children's bucking bronco or simply use up some energy on our themed bouncy castles.  There will also be face painters, balloon modellers and an area where you can make your own 'Most Wanted' poster!

 

Costumed staff will be on hand to help you make the most of your day. Live country-style music and the ubiquitous BBQ food (with plenty of beans!) will complete the atmosphere. All activities are included in the admission price and of course our adventure playground will also be open.

Steel is the heritage of Magna so come along and find out more as we offer special steel tours, the steel tour will include the Big Melt and also a trip to the foundry floor so get your hard hats at the ready. A special steel gift will be giving to each child participating on the tour Steel tours will take place at 10.40am, 11.40m and 1.40pm daily and will be £1 per child wishing to take part.

20,000 leagues under the Sea at The Deep

The Deep, Hull

This summer The Deep celebrates Jules Verne's classic adventure '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" in partnership with Hull Truck Theatre. The theatre is producing a new play of the same name, written by award-winning playwright, John Godber. The aquarium is running a series of events for the public to enjoy, including storytelling, presentations and a special quiz trail competition with Hull truck Theatre tickets as prizes.

Fearsome Florence

Summer holiday activities - 28 July and 4, 11, 18 and 25 August

Florence Nightingale passed away one hundred years ago. Come and find out how this remarkable woman changed the history of medicine and war.

The Fearsome Florence workshops will be running every Wednesday (from 28th July - 25th August) of the school holidays, 10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm.

There will be a different activity to participate in every Wednesday.

Week 1 - Lovely lamps

Decorate your own lamp with glass paints, just like the lamp Florence Nightingale would have had.

 

Week 2 - Make your own catapult

The Crimean war is raging and you need to protect your army. With some material at hand, and a limited supply of shillings to buy more, can you make the best catapult to protect yourself from the enemy?

 

Week 3 - Flapping Owls

 Make yourself a pet owl with flapping wings- just like Florence Nightingale had.

 

Week 4 - Rats and Mice

Rats and mice spread diseases and infections during the Crimean War. Come along and have a go at making fun finger puppet rats and mice.

 

Week 5 - Marvelous Medals

Medals are given out when people fight and help in wars. If you were fighting in the Crimean war, what would your medal look like? Design your own medal to take home with you.

Workshops are free with usual museum admission.

Harlow Carr Warriors, are you ready for a challenge?

Can you take on the great garden adventure? If you are brave enough pack the essentials, bring the family and report to Harlow Carr this August. To kick the month off we are celebrating with a Forest Party on the 1st. Come dressed up and enjoy rainforest crafts and watch as a tree sculptor expertly carves one of Harlow Carr's woodland trees.

Everyday after that, why not dare to take part in our Mystery Garden Quest and find the hidden clues by GPS or every weekend you can develop your outdoor skills with den building, bush crafts and a scavenger hunt workshop? If you would like something a little more serene why not try your hand at yoga in the garden with the YogaBugs.

Open Air Theatre - Beauty and the Beast

Louisa and her trusty companion Milky-White the cow are back to perform 'Beauty and the Beast' especially for you this summer!  Laura Turner's interpretation of this classic fairytale is sure to delight children of all ages as Louisa and her friends transform their ordinary 1940's garden into a magical setting for this endlessly exciting fairytale.  As they act out the story, be prepared for the fearsome beast and his terrifying castle, but never fear, as Beauty quickly finds some rather surprising friends whilst the beast's heart finally begins to melt.  Come along and watch this heart-warming story of fun and friendship in fancy dress and join Louisa and her friends in a fairytale parade during the interval - a true Chapterhouse tradition.

Wild West Weekend

Castle Howard, York

Bring the children in their cowboy hats or feathered headdresses and enjoy a variety of activities with a wild west flavour! In our 'OK Corale' try your hand at Hoop La, Tin Can Alley or the Shoot Out. If you have brave little ones they can take their place on our children's bucking bronco or simply use up some energy on our themed bouncy castles.  There will also be face painters, balloon modellers and an area where you can make your own 'Most Wanted' poster!

 

Costumed staff will be on hand to help you make the most of your day. Live country-style music and the ubiquitous BBQ food (with plenty of beans!) will complete the atmosphere. All activities are included in the admission price and of course our adventure playground will also be open.

Steel is the heritage of Magna so come along and find out more as we offer special steel tours, the steel tour will include the Big Melt and also a trip to the foundry floor so get your hard hats at the ready. 20,000 leagues under the Sea at The Deep

The Deep, Hull

This summer The Deep celebrates Jules Verne's classic adventure '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" in partnership with Hull Truck Theatre. The theatre is producing a new play of the same name, written by award-winning playwright, John Godber. The aquarium is running a series of events for the public to enjoy, including storytelling, presentations and a special quiz trail competition with Hull truck Theatre tickets as prizes.
