Eureka! launches Playfest 2012 family festival from 21 July to 2 September
Article published on 20 April 2012
This summer Eureka! The National Children's Museum in Halifax is staging a six week outdoor festival to enable families and children to enjoy quality time playing together. Eureka!'s lawns and outside areas will be occupied by four marquees, where families can engage in a range of special events and activities, as well as the usual fun inside the museum.
Describing Playfest 2012, Eureka! Marketing & Development Director Tom Warman, said:
"We know from events like National Play Day that families enjoy sitting about watching their children play in a relaxed and easy-going environment. The idea for Playfest 2012 is that, by having a different theme for each day of the week over a six week period, families can experience something different every time they visit. Playfest 2012 is about having fun, surprising yourself with some playful activities and simply enjoying the festival atmosphere. It'll be a great day out for both children and parents, and we hope it'll be something that families come back to enjoy more than once during its six weeks duration."
Visitors will have a different experience on every visit, enjoying the daily themes of Move It Monday, Tell a Tale Tuesday, World Wednesday, Theatre Thursday, Funtime Friday, Saturday Sounds and Science Sunday. These themes will be played out in four different marquees which will have a Main Stage, Laughter Tent, a Fingers & Thumbs Tent and a Bits & Bobs Tent. The activities will also happen in the main Eureka! building where families can enjoy the festival while learning through play in the permanent exhibitions.
Eureka! Playfest 2012 will run every day from 11am on Saturday 21 July until 4pm on Sunday 2 September. An online programme of events will be available on Eureka!'s website www.eureka.org.uk/playfest2012 from mid June.
The festival is free with standard admission or your Eureka! annual pass.
